An automobile has become so vital to American lifestyles
that when it malfunctions we want are stranded. We want it fixed -- right
now and for a fair price. Problem is, there are so many auto repair shops
that it's difficult to find one that provides honest service at competitive

time. "Usually in one day," said owner Wayne Whitehouse, an auto
technician for 20 years.
Performance Auto Care runs a full-service repair shop, offering everything
from routine maintenance to major engine work for individuals, corporate fleets,
and many new and used car dealers. "When you need a car repair or
maintenance, the first thing you need is experienced technicians that offer
quality customer service at reasonable prices," Wayne said. While working
for others, Wayne recognized the lack of customer care and professional service
at some repair shops. "I've heard it all," he said. "Customers often
tell me about being over charged or scared into authorizing repairs that weren't
necessary." So when he opened Performance Auto Care in 1999, he
began working hard to please his customers.
"One of my goals is to offer service and prices beyond customers;
expectations," he said. To prove it, Performance Auto stands behind its
work by offering 12,000-mile 12 month warrantees and by offering the best price
in town. "We will beat any shop's written estimate," he said.

The formula worked. Performance Auto became so busy so quickly that in
October 2000 the company had to move to a larger shop with more equipment and a
larger waiting room to accommodate new and repeat customers. When
Performance Auto moved, it stayed in Westland, Wayne's hometown. "Working
in my hometown makes a difference to me," said Wayne. More
comfortable with people who are literally his neighbors, Wayne feels more driven
to server them right because Westland residents are old high school buddies,
family, neighbors, and people he runs into at the grocery store or in lines at
his bank.
"I can be proud of what I'm doing here, Wayne said. "I like giving
back to the community." That pride in his work extends to extensive
cleaning and revamping of his shop. "I've done a lot of work to this shop
to let the public know that there has been a change since I took over the
building," he said. "I take pride in my work, and my shops appearance
